Animal Magic at Martin Mere

Duck Giggles

A few weeks ago we visited our local WWT Centre, Martin Mere. They had a special Animal Magic event running so that for the usual entrance price you could also see some new and unusual animals alongside the many, many birds. It’s a great space to walk with a toddler with big paths but we did have to watch him when he got close to some of the ponds! As we went in we bought some bird food so we could feed the ducks, geese and even flamingos as we went round. Lucas particularity enjoyed this but a lot of the ducks weren’t quite as keen to get close to a very loud, giggling little boy.

We also managed to get up close to some of the visiting animals that were there for the weekend. We loved the snakes and reptiles and much to our surprise Lucas even tentatively stroked a few. He was particularity interested in the little orange corn snake that was sticking its tongue out at him! We also saw some ferrets in hammocks, rabbits, tortoises and some beautiful birds of prey. A local farm brought a few little goats and a donkey and we picked up a toy badger to join us for the rest of our day. They have several playgrounds which looked amazing but we bypassed the busy ones and found a little one hidden away in the woods that was just right for Lucas. We didn’t get chance to do it all as we had a tired little boy on our hands by the afternoon but I had to stop my husband from joining in the den building and pond dipping activities. We took a lovely picnic lunch and the weather was beautiful; all in all it was a great day out. I’ll definitely go back to it next year when Lucas is older and can join in some more of the events.

Such a great family day out! The photos are lovely and show what fun you all had together meeting the animals and exploring the grounds and play areas. Well done to Lucas for stroking the snake – he’s much braver than I am. Thanks for linking up and sharing your outdoor adventure with Country Kids.

My mum was hidden in a corner when we went to visit the snakes! Lucas was fascinated, we really enjoyed doing something different.

It is lovely but definitely better value if they have an event on with some extra animals!

I’ve always fancied taking my stud to our local wwt. It looks like a lovely adventure outdoors with some pleasant animals to feed and learn about. I’m more afraid of the big geese though and my girly would def not approve a trip like this. This post has made me intrigued to give it a try again though. Lovely pics :):) #countrykids
