Brockholes #WalkWithWynsors

It still amazes me just how much better everyone in our family feels after getting outdoors. It’s not even something we did that often before children and now I can’t even imagine how we would cope without exploring the great outdoors now and again. It’s so easy to get cooped up indoors and for me there is nothing better than seeing my boys run wild outside.

A few weeks ago we were invited to #WalkWithWynsors; a family walking event at Brockholes in Lancashire. Brockholes is somewhere I have wanted to visit for a few years, we often pass the signs for it on the M6 and I’ve always wondered exactly what was there. Well, now I know – Brockholes is a nature reserve set in a beautiful part of Lancashire and looked after by Lancashire Wildlife Trust. Along with several other bloggers and their families we were lucky enough to be led on a short walk around the reserve by Terry, a volunteer who was happy to lend his expertise to our group. He regularly volunteers to lead walks and was very knowledgeable about the area. To prepare us for the walk Wynsors very kindly sent our boys some Bogs wellies and they were very eager to put them to the test, it can’t be just my children that get surprisingly excited about wellies?! They loved that they have handles to pull them on with!

As we arrived the weather was a little grey but it was still a lovely spot to be in and we met in the floating Visitor Village ready to follow our route around the reserve. We were lead on a circular route along the River Ribble with the promise of a stop at the play area before heading back for lunch. We only saw a small bit of the reserve and I would love to go back to see more – we spied some den building going on and I know they have lookouts and bird hides for wildlife spotting. The play area was a big hit with our boys – they were particularly excited by the miniature gravel quarry and could have probably spent the whole day there! We dragged them away to for lunch, which we enjoyed with views over the meadow lake, and as the sun was coming out we decided to stay and explore a little longer. We had promised them another play on the park and then we went to see the stone circle and found the most beautiful views of the river. I took the photo of the three of them sat on the bench up there and it is one of my favourites.

We had such a fantastic day and will definitely be returning to Brockholes – it is free entry but you do have to pay for parking which goes towards helping to maintain the reserve. They have a restaurant, shop and information centre and hold regular events for families – I’d thoroughly recommend it. As for the wellies, they stood up to the vigorous testing methods of my three boys and they are being worn almost everyday at the moment! I love the photos I took of them that day, we had so much fun.

I’ve often wondered what Brockholes was like too! It looks really nice, and I totally agree about getting outside, it always blows away the cobwebs! Love the wellies x

Do you know Ive driven past this place at least twice a week for years and never knew what it was. It looks like a really good place to explore and your boys look like they had a really lovely time!
