Family Fun In The North West This Half Term

The October half term is always one of my favourite school holidays, if the weather is good it is one of the most beautiful times to get out and about and there is always so much going on with Halloween and Bonfire Night right around the corner. I’ve put together a few family events going on over the half term week – hopefully there will be something for everyone! 

The Enchantment of Chester Zoo – Chester

Back for its second year and better than ever, The Enchantment of Chester Zoo is full of adventure, acrobatics, music and discovery. We visited this weekend and it is a fantastic Halloween treat and a spooky extra to your zoo visit, read more about our day out hereWhen: 21st October – 31st October. Halloween Lantern Carnival – Liverpool City Centre

All the family are invited to join the fun as shadowy inhabitants – including illuminated giant beasts, skeletons and ghostly dancing apparitions, deathly street bands and other monstrosities – will roam the streets for one night only in a dazzling Halloween Lantern Carnival parade. When: Sunday 29th October 6pm. Price: Free

Storyhunters at The Storybarn – Calderstones Park

During half term week The Storybarn is running two fantastic events for the family. Weird and Wonderful Storyhunters is aimed at children age 3-8 – this special event based on Halloween/Autumnal books and, part theatre, part storytelling and full of imagination it looks like a lot of fun. If you have younger children you can go along to the Incy Wincy Rhyme sessions for under 3’s. When: various times until November 12th. Price: Tickets from £4.

Let’s Ride – Newsham Park, Liverpool

Think park run for cyclists, this free pop up event is a great way to get out for a family bike ride. The route is safe and volunteers are on hand to help and offer advice. Why not pop along and give it a go. When: 21st October 2017. Price: Free

Pumpkin Picking – Poplar Farm Ormskirk

This is our favourite place to go pumpkin picking and we’ve been every Autumn for the last few years. They usually still have plenty of pumpkins left over half term and you are free to wander with your wheelbarrow to find your favourites – a great Halloween tradition. When: As long as the Pumpkins Last! Price: Free to go in pay for pumpkins.

Spaceport Jedi School – Seacombe

With a meet and greet, Jedi school and theatre show this special Spaceport event looks like a must see for any young Star Wars fans out there. When: 23rd October – 27th October. Price: Usual ticket prices apply.

Hansel & Gretel Enchanted Speke – Speke Hall, Liverpool

Throughout the year Speke Hall has become enchanted and their magical trails have been great fun for the whole family. Pop along this half term and see if you can complete the Hansel and Gretel Trail. When: 21st October – 5th November. Price: Usual ticket prices apply, event is free.

A Haunted Halloween – Tatton Park, Cheshire

See the secret hauntings in the hall, play I-spy in the Mansion, see the mystery maze at the farm and spooks in the secret garden. Tatton Park is full of Halloween fun this half term. When: 21st October – 29th October. Price: Usual ticket prices apply.

Manchester Science Festival – Manchester

This massive science festival takes part in venues across Manchester with events for all ages and so much to see an do. Explore the playful and creative side of science. When 19th-29th October. Price: Some events require tickets, please see website for more details.

Day of the Dead – World Museum Liverpool

Come along to find out more about how the Mexicans celebrate Day of the Dead with their skeleton and skull decorations, bright flowers and candy. When: 29th October. Price: Free.

Halloweekend – Manchester

Head down the Manchester as the city is transformed for Halloween. Get lost in the Haunted Maze, follow the trick or treat trail, follow the day of the dead parade and look out for spooky film screenings. When: 28-29th October. Price: various prices, see website for more details.

Spooky Welly Walk – Liverpool & St Helens

Raising money for The Roy Castle foundation the Spooky Welly Walk is taking part in Sefton Park and Sherdley Park. Come dressed  as your favourite Halloween character and help raise money for a good cause. When: 21st October & 28th October. Price: Tickets from £4.

    There’s so much on this half-term it’s brilliant. We certainly won’t be short of things to do.
