Pumpkin Patch Adventures {Living Arrows}

Pumpkin picking is becoming something of a little tradition for us so this weekend we visited our local pumpkin patch to set the boys free in the fields. The beauty of doing something every year (especially when I take way too many photos) is that I can look back and see the difference in the boys. Last year when we went the twins weren’t even one; we had one in the ergo, one in a buggy and we had to take Nanny along with us for reinforcements. I can’t quite believe how much all the boys have changed when I look back on the photo of all three of them squashed in a wheelbarrow. The twins still look like babies, chubby faces and short hair, when now they don’t look that much younger than Lucas who himself has changed massively in a year. Boo and Bear refused to go in the wheelbarrow this year but I’m not sure they would have all fit in even if we wanted them to!

We are reaching the stage when we can give the twins a some more freedom and a pumpkin field seemed like the perfect place to do that although they were a touch grouchy after waiting in line for a wheelbarrow. However, as soon as we headed towards the patch and they could see the orange dots amongst the muddy tracks they cheered up and set off at a run trying to keep up with Daddy pushing Lucas in the wheelbarrow.

Like last year it was an overcast day and it gets so busy there but we found a quiet trail through the greenery. All I could see was little ones darting off into the fields, especially Lucas who seemed on a mission to run to the end of the patch. My husband gets quite serious about picking the perfect pumpkin so we leave him to do the heavy lifting while we have all the fun. Fun it most definitely is – when else would you get to traipse through a field with a wheelbarrow sitting on pumpkins along the way? The boys just loved it, all that open space and uninterrupted family time.

One of my favourite things about doing this year on year is that it will become a firm childhood memory for all the boys. I like to think that when they are older they will reminisce and think of the times we visited the pumpkin patch each year, look back on the photos and laugh at the clothes they were wearing, smile at the changes and remember fondly a fun childhood. It doesn’t take much to make a family memory, it can be the simplest of things to make them smile. The only problem with this one is finding room for the four giant pumpkins we brought home with us! Still, looking at these captured moments will always make me smile.

    Gorgeous photos Hayley. Love the twins’ matching trousers.

    We’ve not done a pumpkin patch this year, but had a great time last year (apart from lugging the pumpkin back to the car)

    Gorgeous photos, Hayley. I had to giggle at the grumpy toddler one and I’m glad you included it! 🙂

    It’s such a brilliant tradition going pumpkin picking, isn’t it? We’ve only been the last two years and yet I can’t imagine not ever going in October now. 🙂

    What a fab day out. You’ve reminded me I used to keep telling my husband all we needed is a huge field for Z to run around on (when he was about 2 or 3!). Love the photos!
