Sunny Days & Lavender Fields

Lavender at Inglenook Farm (2 of 2)

This Sunday was my birthday which usually means two things; that I can eat even more cake than I usually would and I can use it to extort babysitting services out of a family member. I usually manage to achieve both of these! Last week my Mum had bought us tickets for Romeo & Juliet live which was being screened at our local cinema, she’d come to put the boys to bed which meant we could make it out for dinner too. In all fairness she does it willingly but it seems like a extra treat when we have a whole night free and even more so as we were doing something we wouldn’t usually do. I love the live theatre showings and would love to see the real thing even more but this is a great way to see something that we would never normally get the chance to watch. The play was wonderful, especially as I realised I’ve never actually seen Romeo & Juliet performed but thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio and my year nine teacher I pretty much know it word for word!

On my actual birthday we had planned to go to a Vintage Festival at Speke Hall but it was cancelled due to a waterlogged field so instead of rushing off somewhere else I thought we would just stay local. It turned out to be the right decision as we had a truly relaxing day, one of the nicest I can remember for a while. Each weekend recently we seem to have been busy or stuck in on a rainy day, it can be so easy to forget that sometimes all you need is a day together. On Sunday the sun shone and we ventured a few miles down the road to Inglenook Farm which as well as doing a lovely breakfast also has a little lavender patch for the boys to have a good run round. I’d been sorting through the photos on my computer and realised I used to take so many from just our ordinary days outdoors and I haven’t done that as much this year. I’m not sure why I stopped but I’m trying to do it a little more again. However, how anyone gets their children to stay still for photos I will never know. Maybe I need more bribery but instead I’ll just call these ‘natural shots’.

My mum joined us for breakfast and we ate outside in the sunshine. The farm has a few goats and Shetland ponies as well as a lovely white donkey which kept the boys entertained. We wandered around saying hello to all the animals before nipping into a little bakery they have on site and picking up some fresh cake. By this point Bear was chanting about lollipops so we sat in the courtyard and enjoyed an ice cream before we went home to spend the afternoon in the garden. It seems to have been ages since we spent a day on a simple outdoor adventure, I think maybe the weather was getting to us and we’d lost momentum, but I’ve been reminded of how much fun it is. We don’t really need to do anything fancy to have a lovely day and I’m hoping for many more over the next few weeks. Me and Lucas are counting the sleeps until school is out – I’m so looking forward to more days like this one.
