Things To Do This Autumn In The North West

I’m sure that we get outdoors more in Autumn than at any other time of year. Maybe because the weather is usually relatively good and we can wrap up warm when it starts to chill down. There is so much fun to be had in the North West and I’ve hunted down a few family events happening over Autumn and the October half term holidays. We usually start our half term with pumpkin picking and it really gets us in the mood for the rest of the school holidays. Here are some of the best things I’ve found going on in my local area.

A Frightsome Halloween – Tatton Park

Continuing with the Roald Dahl celebrations this year, Tatton Park are hosting A Frightsome Halloween themed around, ‘The Witches’. Running for the whole of half term week there will be witch hunting, spooky storytelling, conker challenges and a spectacular Halloween party at the Old Hall. Usual admission applies, the hall and gardens are free for National trust members.

Kenyon Hall Farm Maize Maze

We went and did this at the weekend and it was such great fun. It cost us £13 for a family of five and the boys had had to find fruit and veggies in the maze. We made our way through the Maize Maze, had a play on the tractors and even picked our own sweetcorn before we came home. The Maize Maze is open till the end of October.

Poplar Farm Pumpkin Picking

We have done this for the last two years and I absolutely love it. Lucas has even asked this year when we are going to pick our pumpkins so it has become a proper little tradition for us. This is our favourite Pumpkin Patch but it gets really busy the closer to Halloween you go so be prepared to queue!

Spooky Speke School – Speke Hall

Join in Halloween fun over half term at Speke Hall with an enchanting indoor and outdoor trail. There will be a range of spooky activites for your little ones and entry is free for National Trust members.

The Enchantment of Chester Zoo

This year Wild Rumpus are holding The Enchantment Of Chester Zoo over the half term holidays. It sounds like a wonderful family friendly Halloween event with performers and acrobats casting their spell over the zoo. When you book tickets to visit the zoo you can choose to see The Enchantment of Chester Zoo for free but there is limited availability.

Halloween Children’s Party – Sefton Palmhouse

Jumping Jacks are holding a party in the Palmhouse at Sefton Park specially for your little ones at Halloween. Tickets are £6 and runs 5-7pm on Halloween night.

National Wildflower Centre Apple Day

Join the outdoor team at the National Wildflower Centre on the 27th October for apple day and enjoy seasonal family activities to celebrate harvest time.

Irish Festival Family Day – Liverpool Museum

As part of the Irish Festival taking part across the city the Liverpool Museum on the waterfront is hosting a free family day on the 15th October with dancing, music, talks and activities.

Calderstones Park

I can’t see that there are any particular events on here but I just love visiting Calderstones Park at this time of year. It has so many beautiful old trees, it’s full of colour and you can stop off for a great hot chocolate and slice of cake in the cafe…or if you’re like us an ice cream, the boys have ice cream whatever the weather.

River of Light – Liverpool

Liverpool and Wirral are joining forces for a special bonfire night event on the waterfront. As well as firework displays there will be parades and extra events, it sounds like it’s going to be a big event! Keep an eye on the website for further details closer to the time.

Hope you enjoy some outdoor fun this Autumn!

I love this list. I had no idea that Kenton hall farm did sweetcorn around this time but we are definitely going to add that to our list!

I think sweetcorn picking will be the new thing 🙂 Quite good fun actually and I’ve seen quite a few places doing it now!

Kenyon Hall Farm is literally less than 5 mins from where we are, we definitely need to go and do the maize, O would love it. The Tatton event sounds amazing but we’re away most of half term and it’s the school Halloween disco on the Friday. Such a shame, I love the Witches!

Great list of places to go for half term, we love Kenyon Hall Farm, sounds like you and the boys had a lovely time there recently. I have heard good things about Speke Hall, it sounds similar to Ordsall Hall in Salford which is a fantastic place to visit over Halloween, I must take the girls to Speke Hall at some point! Thanks for ideas Hayley, I am starting to get organised for half term now, Ste will be off work which means we can enjoy a few family road trips! Hope you and your boys will have a lovely week together xx

Oh I’m going to look up Ordsall Hall, sounds great. Speke Hall is so good, your girls would love it as there is so much to do outdoors, must admit we don’t often actually go in the hall itself, it’s not very relaxing with three boys loose! Hope you have a lovely half term, so nice to have that time together xx

Great list Hayley, definitely going to fit in a trip to the Maize maze this half term, we’ve never been to a pumpkin patch before great to know there is one close by.
