Books In My TBR Pile -Spring 2018

March 3, 2018

I’m starting to get a little more time to read at the moment. For some reason I’ve been off to a slow start in 2018 and yet it doesn’t stop my TBR pile from growing and growing. I’m going to try and not buy any new books this month so I can make a bit of headway into these – a couple of them have been waiting to be read from last year so it’s about time I ticked them off.

The Little Book of Lykke – Meik Wiking

My husband bought this and Lagom because he knows I love these little books. This one is by the same chap who wrote The Little Book of Hygge and it’s a nice one to have on the go alongside other books, you can just pick it up and read a few pages at a time.

Dangerous Liasons – Pierre De Laclos

I was sent this when I took part in a book swap over on The Reading Residence (if you’re into all things bookish, stationery, journalling go and check out Jocelyn’s blog as she does some brilliant swaps). I was so pleased to be sent this book! I hadn’t heard of it before but it sounds like just my kind of thing, a period classic, and I can’t wait to read it.

Lagom – Linnea Dunne

Lagom in Swedish is apparently loosely translated as ‘not too little, not too much, just right’ and this book is along the same lines as The Little Book of Lykke. They’re both beautiful little books, like mini coffee table books. I spotted this on Let’s Talk Beauty and I always love what Vicki is reading. As someone who is constantly trying to de-clutter I’m looking forward to reading this.

A Shiver of Snow and Sky – Lisa Lueddecke

My husband bought me this for Christmas and I’ve actually just finished it but it’s in the photo so I thought I’d give it a mention. It’s written by a former book blogger and is part nordic myth, part fairy tale. It’s a lovely story and definitely worth a read.

The Other Mrs Walker – Mary Paulson-Ellis

I don’t know much about this book but a friend passed it onto me and it has a pretty cover! I’m a sucker for a nice cover. Some reviews liken it to Sarah Waters who I love so hopefully I’ll enjoy this one too.

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings – Maya Angelou

This has been on my TBR list for years; I bought a copy of it last Spring and still haven’t read it! This is the first of Maya Angelou’s autobiographies and I’d love to read them all and learn more about her. I’ve taken it off our bookshelf and put it by my bed – it’s the next book I’m going to read.

The Mystery Of The Blue Train – Agatha Christie

Another one that I’ve actually not long finished but it’s in the photo! This is my first ever Agatha Christie and I loved it, I don’t quite know why I haven’t read any before but I’m definitely going to try a few more. She has written so many but I read this one Poirot one fine as a standalone novel so if you’re thinking of trying one just jump right in.

The Good Immigrant – Nikesh Shukla

I bought this for my husband last year and have meaning to read it for the last few months. It’s a selection of essays from ethnic minorities in the UK explaining what it feels like to be ‘other’ and to be made to feel out of place in a country that is their home.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman

EVERYONE seems to be reading this at the moment, I cannot scroll through my Instagram without seeing it. I think that’s why I’ve been putting it off in case my expectations are too high! Then my good friend Bookworm and Theatre Mouse passed on her copy so I will have to try it soon as it’s sitting there staring at me.

I’d love to know if you’ve read any of these and what you thought of them? Anything you’re looking forward to reading this Spring?

That’s a great Spring reading list! I have the Lykke book on mine too. I read ‘I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings’ at college and really enjoyed it. I hope you find some peaceful afternoons to get through your TBR pile. I’m reading ‘Wonder’ at the moment. It’s a children’s book and really good.

A friend lent me Wonder a few years ago and it’s one of my favourites, such an incredible book! Hope you carry on enjoying it, I know there is a film out too but I’m not sure how well it will translate to I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve had to plough through a few books that have been leant to me and I need to return but I’m hoping to start ‘I know Why The Caged Bird Sings’ after that.

Looks like a fab little pile Hayley – I’ve been reading about ‘lagom’ lately too and I’d like to find out more! I also have Eleanor Oliphant on my library reservations list – hearing so many good things about it. I’m also a sucker for a good book cover. And ‘A Shiver of Snow and Sky’ is a fabulous book title, must add that one to my list! xx

I think you’d like A Shiner of Snow and Sky, it’s a little simplistic but such a different book to anything else I’ve read. I think she is releasing a follow up which I hope will go into the characters a little more. Are we the only two people left who haven’t read Eleanor Oliphant?! 😉 xx

Lots of lovely titles here. I love a good Agatha Christie mystery, having read five now, but not the title you’ve mentioned so will have to check that one out. I know it is quite highly recommended, but The Murder on the Orient Express is a great one of hers, as well as And Then There Were None – both hyped, but worth it.

I recently borrowed The Little Book of Lykke from the library and really enjoyed the insight… It made me think a lot too. I haven’t read the Hygge one but definitely intend on giving it a read now too.

    Happy reading!

I just asked my friend where to start with Agatha Christie as there are SO many I didn’t know where to begin. She had this one spare so sent it on but I will definitely check out the others thanks! I think the Lykke books and Hygge book have become quite trendy but think they are so interesting, I’d check out the Hygge too if you liked Lykke!

I enjoy your book posts Hayley! I really want to try the Lagom and Lykke book after thoroughly enjoying the Hygge book. I have a big physical TBR pile at the moment, and I’m currently reading a Susan Lewis book. I finished a non-fiction creative photography guide yesterday and got so many new ideas! Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog last month, and apologies it’s taken me so long to reply. Hope April is a good reading month for you! 🙂 xx
