My Mum {The Ordinary Moments}

Mum

Every year around Christmas the ladies of my family try to meet up for a meal; this year we brought it forward a bit and I spent a Saturday afternoon in the company of some of my favourite people. Over the years it has extended to include all manner of relatives ranging in ages from 76 to 29 and we have a great catch up and a lovely day.

This year me and my mum decided to take a sneaky hour for ourselves and arrived a little early; I took her to Central Perk in Liverpool (which is amazing by the way) and we had a cuppa, relaxed and chatted. I have always been very close to my mum and I have always told her everything but now with a little toddler to chase after we never just spend time together distraction free. I can’t tell you how many times she listened to me as I was growing up, whatever was bothering me could always be talked through and she could always make me feel better. Being able to spend an hour, or more, catching up is probably something I took for granted before Lucas was on the scene but now it is a real treat. I couldn’t even tell you what we spoke about but it was a lovely to spend some time just the two of us; we had a good natter, took some pictures and the hour went all too quickly.

    It’s amazing how precious it feels to have a proper conversation that doesn’t include “no! Stop! Please be gentle with your sister” when you’re so used to wrangling toddlers and catching up at the same time – definitely a good idea to steal and extra hour!

      I’m so glad we did it, she loves spending time with Lucas so it’s hard to get her on her own these days!

      I think sometimes you appreciate your mum all the more when you have children of your own, I would love to be able to do this more with her x

    What a gorgeous photo. And I totally know what you mean, you suddenly realise when you have children that actually you forget what a real conversation is like! I am really close to my mum too xx

      It’s so nice to get some time with your mum when you are close, but usually when you are close to your mum she is also super close to your children so trying to prise her away from Lucas can be difficult! xx
