Creating Our Garden – Part One

Last week we had grand plans for lots of outdoor fun including the family favourite Easter Egg Hunt but sadly we all fell ill over the bank holiday weekend so we spent our days indoors, in our pyjamas lazing on sofas; too ill to even eat chocolate!

The rest of our week has been taken up with gardening. We moved into our house last year and didn’t get chance to do our garden before winter set in but I was determined to make a start this week while the husband was off. It was getting a little sad looking out the patio doors and seeing the overgrown mess that was our outdoor space. I’m hoping to be able to keep you updated as we go and this is just the first stage in creating our garden! There is so much I want to do with it and of course I have been busy creating a Pinterest board but for now I think I would just be happy with some grass!

No sooner had the husband set to work and started to turn the soil over than our neighbour popped round with a bit of good news for us. He was laying a patio on his garden and had some turf going spare if we would like it, we were amazed by this stroke of luck as well as the kindness of our neighbour. He has obviously seen the sorry state of our garden and he’s happy to see his turf put to good use. That is what we have been putting our minds to this week; I say we, mostly good ol’ husband has been doing the back breaking business of turning over the soil and laying the turf but I have very kindly created a plan with measurements to guide him.

Of course this has given Lucas plenty of opportunity to play outside while we have been busy and he has loved getting his hands dirty and pottering around in his wellies. He is such an outdoors boy and loves nothing better than running around, stamping in mud and puddles, trying to eat soil (much to Mummy’s horror). This week we are hoping to do a little more planting while Daddy is back in work. We have grand plans for a family garden which will eventually include a vegetable patch, sand pit and a toddler area and swing however while it is a work in progress Lucas is just as happy playing in the soil.
