A Little Bit Lately #19

Please read my first A Little Bit Lately post to find out what these are all about, although I’m sure you get the idea. These have been inspired by Sometimes Sweet’s Currently posts so check her out if you like it!

Reading

I have finally got my reading mojo back and have got a few books on the go this last month. My husband bought me Orange Is The New Black for my birthday in July which I have just finished. I really loved it, I’m a big fan of the show but I think the book is even better. It is much more focussed on the strength and resourcefulness of women and the failings of the American prison system. I would recommend it whether you have watched the show or not, it is hard to put down. I’ve also started Paper Towns which a good friend kindly sent on to me; I love getting books through the post so I’m trying to pass a few more of mine of when I’ve finished reading them.

Watching

Hooray for Autumn TV! As soon as Great British Bake Off starts I know we are starting on the season of cosy nights in watching my favourite shows. We finally finished Orange Is The New Black; I wasn’t too sure about the ending to season three, it seemed all over the place. After that I was looking for something different for us to watch and stumbled across Episodes; it’s one of those shows I’ve quite fancied watching but have never given it a go. I wasn’t too sure after the first couple but I’m hooked now, it really does make me laugh out loud.

Listening To

I’m still enjoying listening to the radio in the day, it’s even easier now Lucas is out all day and he isn’t constantly requesting Netflix. One of my friends got me hooked on Radio 6; it is my new favourite radio station and I love that it plays all kinds of things. Lauren Laverne in the morning is my favourite slot of the day.

Loving

I’m making a bit of an effort when it comes to making time for myself, I managed to get back to my Yoga class after a month off and feel so much better for it. I love the chance to switch off for a couple of hours. I was really pleased that my first magazine from magazine.co.uk came through this month! A shiny copy of Elle landed through my door which meant I’ve been flicking through the pages while the twins nap. Usually I eat lunch sat in front of the laptop but it’s been much nicer to sit and read a magazine instead. I am also loving my new planner from Toad Diaries; with all the back to school vibes I always start a new diary in September and I love this one! The best thing for me is you can choose when they start so you can get one year round whenever you fancy a new planner. Toad Diaries very kindly sent me a voucher too so I sent on on to the lovely Maria Noell who I know loves a bit of stationery.

Thinking About

I was reading something a few days ago and it mentioned that loving Autumn has become a bit of a blogger cliche. I’ve always loved Autumn and it does seem to be the season to share on the blogging front. Isn’t it funny that because we share so much of ourselves online now certain traits or things people love become trendy? I like to think that it is more that we can share something and someone else will say, ‘oh, I love that too’ without the feeling of having to out do each other with the next blogging trend. Afterall isn’t that just friendship, a catch up and chat about the things you love in life. As I pull on my stripy t-shirt, lace up my converse and admire my Ikea picture rails, I’ll raise my Starbucks takeaway cup full of chai latte to all the bloggers who share what they love.

Some bits of life lately over on my Instagram.

Haha – love that bit at the end. You’re so right. It’s a trend because it’s good and lots of people like it. Trends have never been shown to be wrong, just think of all the past prime examples. You know things like perms, mullets and shellsuits. All great things!!

Honestly though, I’m with you. I don’t think having a shared love of autumn should be branded a cliche. It’s nice to share things we have in common. What next? Should we all be like, “Uh, did you read her blog?”. “She’s totally jumped on the ‘love Christmas’ bandwagon”… Btw I totally have a million stripy tees, converse, and ikea shelves. The only difference here being I prefer a Neros chai to a Starbucks one! Xxx

Haha, my friend just picked me up the Starbucks takeaway cup because she knew I would love it! It’s a weird one isn’t it, things are popular because they are great! I wonder if we will look back at some of our trends and think they were as bad as perms! xx

Love this Hayley. I write a (sometimes) weekly post called The Week That Was but it’s essentially the same idea and I find it a nice way just to summarise a few bits and pieces that are going on.

I too love autumn and completely agree with what you have said – we should all just be free to write whatever we want, when we want. If you like the same thing, then great!

Love your blog and enjoyed catching up with you over my lunch break 🙂

Thanks Kelly, sometimes it’s nice just to write about a few bits and bobs. It’s funny when I look back on them and remember the things I was up too. xx

Ooh, a new planner! I love Orange is the New Black, too, though like you, not sure about the end of season three. The whole season didn’t grip me as much as the other two, really. Glad you have your reading mojo back x

You should definitely read the OITNB book if you haven’t already Jocelyn! If you like the show it is a great read, I found season three a weird one too, hope it comes back and I love it still! xx

Oh my goodness, what did you read that said that about autumn?! People like autumn because it’s awesome and not because they’re jumping on a bandwagon. How strange?!

I thought of you when I read it! It’s a funny thing isn’t it? I guess it’s so easy now for everything to be a trend just because people share more of their private thoughts online xx
