A Little Bit Lately 22

Please read my first A Little Bit Lately post to find out what these are all about, although I’m sure you get the idea. These have been inspired by Sometimes Sweet’s Currently posts so check her out if you like it!

Reading

I wanted to write about the books I have read so far this year but I always feel like I’m doing homework for school when I have to review a book so instead I’ll just keep track of my favourites in there. The stand out ones so far are the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth. I got the first one cheap through a Kindle deal and thought I’d give it a try before watching the films. Of course I then had to get the others right after and I read all three in a week, I loved them then it was all ruined by the last book. No spoilers but I couldn’t be more disappointed in the ending, I was so angry about it I needed a few days to calm down! Moving on, I have just finished Water for Elephants which I loved even though it wasn’t what I thought it would be about. I’n not sure what I imagined but I would recommend it, it’s quite dark but still a sweet story. I’ve been reading North & South by Elizabeth Gaskall for about three months and finally finished that. It is so long but still easy to read and such a romantic tale, just my kind of thing and of course I loved it. For February I’ve made a start on Lady In The Van by Alan Bennett which I’m excited to read after my friend Vicki told me how much she loved it. You can come and make friends with me on Goodreads to see what else I’m reading.

Watching

I’m so excited that new The Good Wife is on, I usually have a sneaky lazy afternoon once a week when the twins nap and catch up on it. Me and my husband have also started watching The Fall, late to the party as usual but is it weirdly watchable even if it does make me nervous. After reading a fair few books this month I’m trying to watch the film versions too, we watched the first two Divergent films and I’ve added Water to Elephants and Paper Towns to the list as well.

Listening To

I always struggle with this one, I usually just have Radio 6 on in the day and don’t find much more time to listen to music. We don’t even have a stereo anymore, just a record player and everything else I listen too through the computer or in the car. My next investment needs to be a digital radio with bluetooth, I always used to listen to music in the kitchen whilst cooking but since our ipod classic gave up (sob) I don’t have anything in there anymore so it is sadly very quiet.

Loving

At the beginning of the year I did Susannah Conway’s free email course, Find Your Word for 2016  I can’t remember where I first saw it now but it’s a free course with a little activity once a day for five days. It involves some writing and mindfulness tasks so I made use of one of my many, many notebooks and started documenting in it. I’ve really enjoyed it and coming up with my word for 2016. The idea is you have a word to focus on for the coming year and it follows through into everything you do. It set me off writing things down again and now my little notebook is full of musings and doodles. I love the idea of a bullet journal but I don’t think I’d keep it up, I wouldn’t keep to it religiously every day so instead I’ve been doing my own version. It isn’t pretty enough to show off, it’s just my scribbles and random writings, a little bit like a diary. I find I’m dumping all the stuff in my head into it; everything is in there from books I’m reading to things I want to watch on Netflix, websites and blog ideas as well as long diary entries when I find I can’t sleep. It has been incredibly therapeutic and I don’t feel pressured to write in it everyday, I just pick it up now and again when I feel like it.

Thinking About

We’ve been busy making plans for our half term week off. We nipped out to the park today while the sun was shining and it was freezing but I’m hoping that won’t stop us too much. Lucas has a few school friends he wants to catch up with and I want us to make use of our National Trust pass and find somewhere full of daffodils and snowdrops. We’ve got one day full of appointments so they are all out the way and then we’re free to go exploring and adventuring. Ever the romantic I bought my husband a flask for Valentine’s Day, we don’t usually get each other anything but I know he has wanted one for a while so we can take a brew out on our day trips…hello middle age!

Some bits of life lately over on my Instagram.

Lovely post Hayley. I really enjoyed reading it. I watched the Fall when it was on and I was strangely gripped by it but at the time I was still commuting into London before sunrise and couldn’t watch it in the evenings as I got so freaked out by it. There is a second series about to air so good timing!

I have digital radio in my car and it’s so good, well worth having. I think I know what ending you’re referring to and I thought it was so lame. Bah, they really should have ended it differently!

Oh I like the sound of a Find Your Word course, I am going have a look at that! I have been listening to loads more music lately, I have 6 music on the radio a lot too but then have started listening to new purchases on my laptop while I’m cooking dinner! x
