Colder Months & Cosy Candles

There are a few things that I consider to be essentials in our house when the colder months roll in. Fairy lights, cosy socks, new yarn, chunky blankets, chai tea, little pumpkins and always, always candles. Right now we are in the wonderful inbetween spell; I can have the patio doors open during the day and the twins can run in and out playing in the garden. Somedays I can go out with just a cardigan and I can still get away with flat ballet shoes rather than winter boots. Often the sun shines and the air is crisp and I can see a beautiful blue sky behind the changing leaves. Everywhere around us I see Autumn approaching and the evenings are starting to get the tell-tale chill that makes me cosy up indoors and slow down.

I’m a bit of a homebird really, I always have been and I’m just as happy with a night in as I am a night out. It feels like a treat when I pop the kids to bed then come downstairs to the darkening living room with candles lit. I seek out something comforting for tea, have a glass of red wine and curl up to watch a film with my husband. These times make me happy and I appreciate them more and more. Luckily for me, this year I have been sent a wonderful Orla Kiely candle to try out. I don’t know about you but there are two types of candles in my house – the ordinary ones I light just about anytime and then the special ones I save for those quiet evenings in. This is definitely no ordinary candle.

I was sent Earl Grey which couldn’t be better for this tea-addict – two of the things I love most rolled into one. As soon as I opened the package I could smell the scent. The fragrance is so rich and different with essential oils bergamot, clary sage and orange peel. It smells of Autumn to me. It’s quite a musky scent but I absolutely love it, I’ve always found bergamot such a comforting smell, probably because it is in Earl Grey tea! When lit it burns very cleanly and smells amazing and I think it will last me through the whole of Autumn.

As well as doing a great job as a scented candle it also looks beautiful, just as you would expect from Orla Kiely. It comes in a glass holder covered with the recognisable Orla Kiely print and a coaster to use when burning the candle. I’ve had it lit the last few nights as it chills down in the evening. I close the curtains, curl up on the sofa with my latest crochet project (a gorgeous chunky blanket that I can’t wait to finish) and watch some comfort tv which makes my husband roll his eyes at me. I was made for this time of year, a little hibernation quite suits me.

I was kindly sent this Orla Kiely candle for review. All words and thoughts are always my own.

I would want to take a bite of a candle that smelt like earl grey. It must be so lovely when it’s on. I’m ready for socks and jeans I think and cosey pjs. It’s definitely getting colder and with the nights drawing in, it feels like it’s time to wind down doesn’t it?

It smells SO good, it feels like a real treat when it’s on. Definitely cheers me up when it’s raining outside!

Oh, that sounds lovely! Quite unusual, too. I love lighting the candles and snuggling down as the cooler months roll in, makes the end of summer more bearable for me x

What a fab scent – two of my favourite things in one, Tea & Candles. It sounds like the ideal scent for the transition from Summer to Autumn.

Hayley – this sounds exactly like me. In fact I went to out today just to buy candles. I darken the room, light and candle and get so excited to return downstairs. I love your new header – it’s gorgeous. And I am honestly so excited for it to be properly cold! xx
