A Little Bit Lately November

A Little Bit Lately #28

Please read my first A Little Bit Lately post to find out what these are all about, although I’m sure you get the idea. These have been inspired by Sometimes Sweet’s Currently posts so check her out if you like it!

READING

In an attempt to hibernate I have been very unproductive the last few weeks and instead of doing any real work I’ve been reading, reading and then reading some more. It means I’ve flown through quite a few books (check out my Autumn reading update) which is great but I think I’ll have to come back into the real world soon. At the moment I’m working my way though the Throne of Glass young adult series and just this week have started the latest book Empire of Storms. They are great it you love fantasy, different to anything I’ve read for a while, fast paced and entertaining.

WATCHING

We haven’t watched that much TV this month and have caught up on a few films we fancied watching. My husband had recorded Frank which I wasn’t too sure I’d like but in the end absolutely loved it. It’s a few years old now but is one of the best films I’ve watched for a while, made me laugh out loud whilst still being incredibly sweet. I also went to see The Girl On The Train with a friend – it’s one of those I wanted to see as I loved the book but I didn’t go in with very high expectations. I actually thought they did a great job with the film, even with the change of location to New York, it all worked and Emily Blunt was amazing.

LISTENING TO

I went to see PJ Harvey this month with an old friend. We realised that we went to our first gig together 17 years ago, we spent most of our high school years doing the same so it’s a little surreal for us both to be out, away from the kids, revisiting our youth! Sadly, I don’t have quite the same energy levels as I did at fifteen but it was a fab night out. I’ve never seen her live before and she didn’t disappoint, her voice is just something else, even better live than on her albums.

LOVING

I always find this time of year quite hard, I think it’s the time in between Halloween and Christmas when you are just waiting for the festivities and winter is starting to set in. We don’t get out as much and I start to feel a little cooped up. Still, there are always a few things I’m loving; I read this post from Kerri Ann at Life As Our Little Family a few weeks ago and I loved it. It’s called The Importance of Love and it’s well worth a read, totally appeals to the romantic in me and I could relate to so much of it. Although the weather has been awful this week I am still enjoying the Autumn colours, I’ve never taken so many photo of leaves! They seem particularly gorgeous this year and it makes the walk to school that bit more bearable.

THINKING ABOUT

I’ve been trying to get all my Christmas shopping out the way early so most of my thoughts are consumed with that. Earlier in the year the plan was to make a few things; I always bake some cookies and I wanted to do chutney this year but we are already at the end of November and I haven’t made any yet. Maybe I’m not too late if I can get it done this week! I crocheted myself a hat this week which I’m stupidly proud of as I very rarely actually finish any crochet projects. I didn’t take me long at all so may be able to whip up a few more for the boys for Christmas. Other than children we don’t actually buy that many gifts anymore, we decided a few years ago to cut down on what we bought and just try to see family instead. You reach a stage where you just aren’t sure what to get and end up buying for buying’s sake which just seems silly. It makes the whole run up to Christmas a lot easier for us and the gifts I do buy I have the time to put thought into.

I really enjoyed the Girl on the train movie too. I thought they might ruin it but they did a really good job. Is Frank the one with Michael Fassbender in it? I need to watch that!

Haha, yes, I promise I’m not just going through his entire back catalogue of films!! It was just convenient 🙂 I think because I didn’t expect too much of girl on the train I enjoyed it more.

I love your hat & John didn’t believe me that you made it. Its super cute. I am a little sad that they have changed the location for the Girl on The Train film to NY but I still want to see it though. I didn’t enjoy the book too much but I am holding out hope that the film is better

I didn’t know you’d been to see PJ Harvey, I absolutely love her and would have loved to have gone! Everyone who went said it was amazing. I am going to look up Frank now too, as I don’t really watch tv either I just tend to watch films or series on my laptop! xx

My friend got tickets for her birthday and just asked me out the blue if I wanted to go, I was made up as I’ve always wanted to see her live!! It was in Victoria Warehouse in Manchester which I’ve never been to before and it’s this cool, old warehouse, pretty great space for her! Yes, do watch Frank, I think you’ll like it…it’s very quirky but just go with it 🙂 xx

A month spent reading sounds very productive to me! I have just added the Throne of Glass to my ever-increasing reading wishlist. I like to get presents out the way early and have only one more person to buy for. Then it’s the wrapping, and I hate wrapping! x

Oh that’s so good Jocelyn!! Yeah I’m not a big fan of the wrapping either, my husband does most of it. We have a few birthdays in December, including the twins so I feel like I need to get on top of them too. Let me know if you do read Throne of Glass, I feel like I need other people’s opinions on them as I think I’ve just got swept away by it! 🙂 xx

I have grand plans to read when I’m on Christmas holidays and I desperately need to buy Zs birthday presents. December seems to be a whirlwind in our house!
