A Little Bit Lately #31

April 21, 2017

Please read my first A Little Bit Lately post to find out what these are all about, although I’m sure you get the idea. These have been inspired by Sometimes Sweet’s Currently posts so check her out if you like it!

I’ve taken a little impromptu break from blogging over the last week or so, we’ve been out enjoying our Easter holidays and although Lucas is back in this week it’s been hard to drag the laptop out! I thought this was a nice easy way to break myself into it again and I’ve got a few other posts lined up, just need to sit down and actually write them.

READING

I’ve currently got The Nightingale on the go which I am loving but it’s taking me a while to read, I know it’s going to be sad and reading the details of the Nazi occupation in France is difficult to read, I don’t always want to pick it up but when I do I get sucked right into it. I’ve heard from so many people who love it and my friend Vicki popped it in her reading round up so I knew it would be good. I’ve also just finished Caraval, which was a great read and I finished The Little Paris Bookshop this month which was wonderful. I’ll be doing another round up soon of what else I’ve read as I’ve got through a lot these last few weeks.

WATCHING

We usually watch loads in the school holidays as my husband is off work too but we haven’t really got into anything new this time. We finished watching Taboo which we’d had recorded for ever – I loved the last few episodes but it was a slow start, took me a while to get into it. I’m so excited about American Gods starting next month that we’re just waiting for that really. We are also catching up on last few series of Always Sunny In Philadelphia on Netflix, never fails to make me laugh.

LISTENING TO

I had to drive over to Harrogate last month for a Hen do (which was really good fun) so I dug out some of my CDs to pop in the car. I’m not often in the car for that long on my own so I loved being in control of the CD player. My Skunk Anansie CD got a lot of play and I found this live acoustic playlist when I got back home, it’s so good and great to blast out.

LOVING

I tried something totally new this month and went to a Silent Yoga Disco. Me and my friend had spotted one a while back but it sells out super quick, we were on the ball this time and booked our spot. I would never have done anything like this on my own so I’m so glad she came along with me. It was held in Sefton Palmhouse in Liverpool which is such a beautiful spot to do yoga in anyway. Everyone wears cordless headphones, playing house music, while you go through the poses. House music isn’t really my thing but it was perfect for this, it cuts out any outside noise which was great for yoga. It’s in the evening so as you go on it gets darker around you, I absolutely loved it! The whole experience was amazing but I did ache for a good week afterwards. It pushed me much harder than my usual yoga practice but I would definitely do it again. If you’re local you can find out more about it here, although there were beginners there I think you’d really struggle if you haven’t done any yoga before.

THINKING ABOUT

We Brits talk a lot about the weather – I know I’m as guilt of this as anyone. I kind of love it though and I think it’s part of the beauty of living where we do. I’m not sure I could love anywhere that didn’t have the defined seasons that we do. I love that every few months the weather changes and it brings with it changes in fashion and food, in what we do and even how we think. I’m an Autumn kind of girl but still there is something to love each month of the year. Even though I love the colder weather, the knits and the scarves, the cosy nights and the candles I am still more than ready for spring to come round and by the end of March I’m fully embracing the lighter evenings, the picnics and yearning for the summer days of shorts and t-shirts and BBQ’s. It’s as if you just pick up where you left off last year as you dig your flip flops out of the wardrobe and wander through the blossom. The spring flowers while we’ve been out and about this month have been so beautiful. I can’t help but think that none of it would be as special if it didn’t come round only once a year.

I still have Taboo to finish. I have so many half watched things and I need to finish Big little lies too. I need a day to myself I think 😀 I think talking about the weather is such a good way to strike up conversation with a stranger!

Another lovely post Hayley, sounds like you have got through a lot of books lately and I’m with you on liking seasons! I am intrigued about American Gods, I heard about it on a podcast today so I must try to find out more x

I’m so curious to see what people think of American Gods if they haven’t read the book, the book is very odd and intense but brilliant and I wonder if that will translate, it’s been getting good write ups though xx
