A Little Bit Lately #12

A little bit lately

Please read my first A Little Bit Lately post to find out what these are all about, although I’m sure you get the idea. These have been inspired by Sometimes Sweet’s Currently posts so check her out if you like it!

Reading
I’m finally starting to get back into reading again. It always takes a while for things to settle down after babies I think and any spare time you get is usually for eating or sleeping but now we have a nice little routine I’ve been working my way through some more books. My friend lent me My Animals and Other Family by Clare Balding which I really enjoyed. I don’t read much non-fiction but when I do it is generally autobiographies; this was a great, light hearted and a funny read. I also finished The Fault in Our Stars which I really loved, it kind of stuck with me for a couple of days and I found myself thinking about it a lot. I haven’t seen the film yet but I’ve heard it is a sob-fest!

Watching

Unbelievably, we have been the cinema twice since my last A Little Bit Lately. Any babysitting time that is offered to us we will usually find a film we want to see. We went to watch the new X-Men, Days of Futures Past which was great but frankly I’ll watch anything with James McAvoy in. Just this week we went to see Boyhood which was amazing, I didn’t know much about it before we went except that they actually filmed it over 12 years so everyone ages in real time! That’s pretty cool but it is just a great film with brilliant acting, it was totally captivating I felt like I could have watched more. I found out afterwards it was directed by the same director as Dazed and Confused, which I love!

Listening To

My husband bought me the new Lissie album for my birthday so I’ve been listening to that a lot, she has the most amazing voice but I haven’t fallen for this album as much as the first, not yet anyway! I went to see her live when I was pregnant with Lucas; she usually does a cover song at her gigs and there is a great covers vinyl EP, Covered Up with Flowers which is a favourite of mine.

Loving
I love the summer holidays with my husband off because we get so much more family time but also because it gives us both chance to catch up with friends and spend a bit of time just being you and remembering the things you used to like to do before you became Mum. I’ve been really lucky that I’ve got some great friends I’ve had since childhood, a lovely bunch I met a university, good friends of my husbands that have become my friends too and amazing new Mummy friends since I had children. Being a mum is the best thing in the world but we all need a bit of time out or even someone to message when you’ve had a bad day, I’m feeling very grateful for having people I can turn to this week.

Thinking About

Getting healthy and losing some baby weight! I will never be one of those ladies who loses baby weight easily and I think it’s a very personal thing to decide when it is that you want to make a start. With Lucas I didn’t really worry about my body after birth but I think it was always in the back of the mind that I’d hopefully, be getting pregnant again so I didn’t push myself to lose weight. This time I have tried to eat better post-birth and I ate better throughout pregnancy but I did reach a point were I thought if I don’t do something I’ll just keep putting more weight on. I was cringing when I saw photos of myself so I knew it was time for me to make some changes. I’ve signed up to my local Slimming World group, it has always worked for me in the past and it gets me in the mindset of making healthy choices. It also helps me to give myself a break if I want some chocolate or wine but stops me from gorging for the rest of the week! It’s going well so far and I’m feeling pretty positive about it all, I don’t really have a weight in mind I want to reach I just want to feel happier with myself and make it easier to keep up with the kids!

How lovely to have been to the cinema a couple of times, and a bit more reading time, too. Nice to get a well-earned break!

Ahh you must have loved the Commonwealth opening ceremony then? 😉 I love James McAvoy but more a Michael Fassbender fan. He really needs to make a light hearted rom-com 😀
