Living Arrows 29

This little guy had his last day at pre-school yesterday. I was a little emotional collecting him and seeing him coming running out of the doors for the last time. It’s the start of an exciting time as I know we have the whole of the summer to spend together and yet it’s a little sad as he is saying goodbye to some friends he won’t be seeing come September and some fantastic teachers and teaching assistants who have been there for him all year.

I can’t quite believe how much he has changed in the last ten months. I don’t always realise the differences until I look back and then I can see just how far he has come. I wrote this post about questions when we were filling in forms for the start of nursey and all the things I wanted for him is exactly what he has done.

He has loved going into that classroom every single time and I have never once had to coax him in or prise myself away. As the year has gone on he has made friends, lots of good friends; children who he calls out to as we walk up the the school gates and little ones who will run up and hold his hand. His speech has improved massively and even though he won’t always talk to the teachers he chatters away to us and other children. We’ve been to parties, met up with friends in the holidays and even had get well cards from his very best friend.

He still doesn’t tell me much about his day but since Christmas we actually started to get some art work coming home. I used to see so many children coming out, waving their drawings to hand over to their parents but Lucas would always be empty handed. Then all of a sudden they started, a few times a week he would come home with something he created and he would happily tell us all about them – we have had a few maps, worlds, a house with legs and one of my favourites which he tells me is of him and his brothers. He is happy there, he remembers fun things they have done and he loves to be surrounded by his friends.

It hasn’t been an easy year for him – I have no idea what was going though that little head when we suddenly introduced two babies into his life. We haven’t been able to do the things he was used to and he doesn’t always get the attention he needs. His behaviour isn’t bad, or anything out of the ordinary, but he challenges us at every turn and I have lost my temper too easily at times. However, when I think of all the changes this last year, the growing up he has done and the amazing big brother he is, I am so proud.

He is one of a kind, happy to stand out from the crowd and not afraid to show everyone who he is. His spirit is what makes him Lucas and I love him dearly.

Aww he even has a best friend. That’s so great he made so many friends and they all adorably run up to each other and say hello! One thing I’d love for Lyla soon.

Oh Hayley he is adorable. And so is this post. I will feel exactly the same when Harry & Lottie go through this. He’ll do so well, I am sure. He sounds as though he has found preschool so enjoyable. Bless him, and you, enjoy the Summer 🙂 Jess xx

He is so cute and sounds like a little trooper too! I can’t imagine how tricky it must have been for all of you to adjust from being a family of 3 to 5, but sounds like he’s dealt with it really well 🙂 xx

What a handsome little man he is. I remember all too clearly those last few days at pre-school, so bitter sweet. Have a lovely summer together and then school – where the fun begins!
