Nature’s Day – A Beautiful Children’s Book

Nature's Day

I always get excited when we add to the boys’ book collection. I spend so long trying to hunt out the perfect books for them and I stay for longer at the children’s section in bookshops than they do. Luckily all my boys love to read books; we have always made sure we read to them regularly and keep the bookshelves well stocked.

A few weeks ago the most beautiful book arrived through the door and I was very tempted to run off with it and keep it all to myself. In fact, I did open it when they were in bed so I could have a look through in peace. I have a bit of a thing for lovely children’s books and this has to be one of my favourites. The front cover is slightly embossed so it encourages you to run your hands over the lettering, Nature’s Day, which is exactly what my children did as soon as I unveiled it.

Nature’s Day is a stunning hardback, non-fiction book for children encouraging them to notice the world around them and get out to explore nature in every season. I could talk all day about how beautiful the illustrations are; there is so much to see on every page I feel like you would spot something new each time you looked through it. The book is split into the four seasons and visits eight locations in each one; the boys loved ‘the field’ because it features a tractor but my favourite is ‘the street’. Something about this page just draws me in and I love that you can compare each location for every season to spot the changes.

It is a little too long for my children to read cover to cover so we leapt right in at summer to see how it compared to our garden, we were excited to see some bee’s which we could also find buzzing around the flowers in our garden. I also had to have a peek at the Autumn pages, the falling leaves page makes me excited for that time of year!

I thought that it would be best suited to Lucas at almost four but my 18 month old twins got just as much enjoyment out of it. They spent so long pouring over the pages and pointing at the different creatures and fauna for Lucas to say out loud. There is so much to talk about on each page even if you aren’t reading the text and I think it would be lovely to use this book after walks to have a look for things you spot. It would be the perfect inspiration for a nature drawing session, for the children of course but I think any adult would want to join in too after reading this book.

Wide Eyed Editions publish Nature’s Day and many other beautiful children’s books. I will certainly be adding more to our book collection. They are the kind of books that you would want to treasure and keep even once the children are all grown up.

Oh, I fully agree. It really is the most beautiful book. We’re going to tackle it season by season rather than reading it the full way through. It’s so nice x

That book does look very beautiful. How cute are those pictures of them reading together! I remember when Lyla was little and we’d go through picture books and point out everything on each page and then we’d go out in the real world and she’d point those things out in life too. She still points out trucks to this day haha.

Haha, the twins do that all the time. It is lovely to see them so engrossed in something, and quiet for a change!

We love this book too! I keep it in the lounge though in case Rufus the ripper gets his hands on it when I’m not there. The illustration is stunning and I’ve learnt so much too xx

Yes, we do too! It can only be used under supervision as I don’t want them to get too carried away with it xx
