The Funny Things You Do – 17 months

Dear Lucas

I cannot believe you will be eighteen months old at the end of this month, 17 months old now. I feel like I say this all the time but the time really has flown by. I have so much fun each and every day with you. This month has been very exciting as you have finally started to say some words. I cannot tell you how amazing this is for us (and for you I’m sure). I find it difficult to imagine you talking but I know it won’t be long until we can hold a conversation with you. We are getting ta, cat, car, uh oh and more of a Daddy rather than Dada. Still no Mama but I look forward to the day you learn to call me Mummy.

You already make your personality known in lots of little ways. You look so much like me but I think your character is much more like Daddy; you can be quiet and thoughtful, sometimes in a world of your own. At the moment you seem to smile for so much of the day and it makes me happy to see you so happy. You can play for hours on your own so happily with little figures. You like to line them up along our shelves, make them walk and you chatter away to them.

When we put you to bed Daddy gives you your night time bottle and you always have to stroke his hair or play with his stubble while you are feeding. Then when I feed you at night you hold my hair between your fingers and play with it or tickle your own nose. You have done this for quite a while and I love it; when I walk past the door when Daddy is feeding you I can see you looking at each other while you reach for his hair. I don’t think I will ever forget that image, even when you older.

Mealtimes are becoming much more positive affairs as everyone assured me they would, you have really settled and seem slightly more willing to try new food although Mummy does mostly stick to your favourites; peanut butter and jam butties, fish fingers and carrots seem to be going down well this month. You are now starting to feed yourself too, you can manage to eat your fish fingers with a fork and we take it in turns with the yoghurt. You have a spoon and I have a spoon so I can make sure at least some of it ends up in your mouth.

I am so grateful that I get to stay home with you everyday and even when days are hard and tiring for both of us I feel very lucky that I get to play with you and be the person who makes you smile and chuckle. I can’t tell you how proud I am of you already. I get to see you at your best and I don’t wish for anything more than to spend my days with you and enjoy your childhood.

All my love
Mummy
x

Thank you very much, they change so quickly especially at 11 weeks! I love looking back at old photos and seeing how much he has changed in such a small space of time!

Mads didn’t say Mummy for so long, only Mama, and then all of a sudden one day she just came out with it, I was beginning to think she would never say it! This is a gorgeous letter to your little man. x

Thank you! A lot of people have said the same that Mama was one of the last words they say and Lucas has been quite laid back with his talking anyway, I still cannot wait to hear it xx
