Our Love Of Walks

May 12, 2014

I always feel better for getting out and going for a walk. When Lucas was young we walked nearly every day; up to the park, to the shops, to the library, to visit Grandma. I don’t have a car in the week so we just got used to getting out and walking everywhere. When I became pregnant with the twins the walks became less and less before eventually stopping completely when I couldn’t even make it to the bottom of the road without getting a stitch. Being born in our deep, dark winter and having a c-section has meant that the twins haven’t been subjected to my love of walking as much as Lucas was at that age but we are starting to pick up again.

With a slight (and short lived) improvement in the weather we made it to our local park twice this week. I went once with just the twins while Lucas was at his playgroup; I timed it right and they slept so it built up my confidence to try it with my wild two year old! Lucas just loves the outdoors, so much so that he gets over excited by the freedom and is liable to make a run for it but as he gets older he is improving and it was actually a great walk. We stayed out for over an hour and even when the babies woke up they were content, Lucas loved it and I felt better to be out in the real world…all in all well worth the 20 minutes it takes to get us ready to leave.

I used to have so much fun with Lucas at the park and I have some really special memories of our time together there. We moved just as he was starting to walk and I loved to see him explore in a green space. I feel refreshed and re-energised just by getting out the house and enjoying some quiet(ish) time outdoors. I can’t really walk at any kind of speed with a double buggy and a boy who is determined to hop on and off the buggy board at every opportunity. I’m going to make the most of the twins being in the pushchair; I’m not sure how relaxing it will be when they are all walking but it will always be fun!

It’s so tough when you start to get the aches and pains isn’t it? I walked right up to my due date with Lucas but it all seems to be a bit achier second time round, hopefully you’ll still manage some over summer…good for circulation and all that! xx

Just went on a 3 mile walk with my Baby Jogger today! It really is just the most relaxing and refreshing thing. I hope that you find a way to feel at least a tiny bit relaxed while on your walks. Maybe over time it’ll get easier as you’re used to it. Either way, I’m sure it feels great to have the boys outside!

It’s the prefect time of year, try and get out as much as you can, really will clear your head and babies nearly always sleep in pushchairs! x

Well done for getting out and enjoying that trip to the park, it can all feel like so much effort with little ones the age of yours, but so rewarding when you do manage it. I hope it is the start of resurrecting your love of walking with them. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids.

I hope so too although we aren’t doing quite as well this week, looking forward to having the husband off over summer so it isn’t quite as difficult!
