School Walks – My Captured Moment

February 8, 2015

School Walks

When Lucas started pre-school in September we started our walks to school; I remember writing about it, about how much I loved the chance to walk with him and that my thoughts would probably change in the depth of winter. The truth is that there are days when I wish we didn’t have to get all wrapped up and step out into the cold and some days when we are thankfully saved the walk when Grandad picks him up but most days I still love it. I take a few photos now and again and they build up and capture the changes of the seasons.

These photos are all taken just in the last few weeks, snowy days, windy days and the most recent ones in beautiful sunshine when Lucas chased his shadow the whole way. We are spotting flowers shooting up through the grass even when the fishing pond is frozen and we have been keeping a close watch on a patch of daffodils just waiting for them to flower. I can see Lucas’ total fascination in the changes; when I show him tiny green leaves on the hedgerow he looks in amazement before searching for more. There is so much of the world he has yet to learn about and he has always loved being outdoors, free to explore.

One of the things I love most about the walk at the moment is listening to him chatter. Sometimes he will talk to me or ask questions about the things we see but mostly he is talking to himself; his imagination in constantly bubbling over and he just can’t contain it when he’s running along in the fresh air. If I try to talk to him I usually get a ‘Quiet, Mummy!’ before he continues, delving back into his imaginary world and charging along the pavements. I love that it is so easy for me to take photos of these walks and capture these little moments every day because I have a memory behind each one, a part of Lucas’ childhood.

Listening to kids talk to themselves is just the cutest. They have the most surprisingly intelligent and creative things to say! And his hat is the cutest

Oh your photos are just gorgeous, I love how you can see all the different seasons in them – although it’s only really been autumn and winter! z

It’s great that you and Lucas are still enjoying your morning walks to school, it’s sometimes difficult to find the motivation in the cold dreary mornings of winter but from the looks on his face in the photos, he’s having a wail of a time. Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.

This post made me smile so much, Hayley. We live close to where Eddie will be going to school. I often think about how lovely its going to be like to walk with him everyday.
