A Year In Books

A Year In Books – 2015

January 2, 2015

Books

I remember back in 2012 when I first started this blog one of the things I wanted to write about, alongside all the family memories, was books. I used to read so much; I would read well into the night, devouring new books and re-reading my old favourites. Since having my boys it is one of my hobbies that has dwindled, I can only remember a couple of books from 2014 that I actually completed. This is the year I’m reclaiming my love of reading and I have a plan!

I’m not setting a certain number of books or any reading challenges; I quite simply want to read more. I’m only going to read what I really want to. When I’ve set myself reading challenges before I just buckle under the pressure and if I’m not enjoying a book what is the point of carrying on? I haven’t got the time for that. I just need to keep it simple and rediscover the love of reading. I always used to read before bed so I’m going to try and get back into the habit of doing that rather than messing about of my phone or tablet. I’ve always thought it’s nice to cosy up with a good book and relax before you go to sleep and I am sure it would be better for my over-active mind.

I have a few books lined up for this year; one I have started already is on loan from a friend, The Observations by Jane Harris. I’ve downloaded The Miniaturist onto my kindle as I know it is a favourite of Let’s Talk Beauty and she has been telling me to read it for a few months now. My Book Jar is still on the go (inspired by Plasticrosaries) and is still full of unread books for the year ahead and there a few of the classic ‘must read’ books I really want to try this year, such as Rebecca which I know is a favourite of so many. Other than that I will just see if anything catches my eye and I’ll give it a read.

I’ll be charting my books on Instagram with #ayearinbooks2015 and over on Pinterest so if you would like to join in please feel free to do the same! There is no pressure, personally I’d just be happy to make it through a book a month and anything else is a bonus. It would be great to be inspired  by what others are reading over the year.  I’ll do a little round up on my blog each month with what I’ve read, if I’ve enjoyed them and how I’m feeling about A Year In Books 2015.

I am going to love following you on your reading journey. I haven’t read a book in such a long time and have already decided to put ‘read a book’ on this year’s Bucket List as it would be a big achievement for me – I used to read so much but have just let it go. Happy reading lovely! x

That’s why I want to start up again. I read all the time with the children and think it’s so important so time to make time for me too! Good luck with your reading too xx

This is a fab idea, Hayley. I have a pile of books on my bedside table to read and I am actually planning to write about them in a couple of weeks. I’ll tag you when I (finally) get round to it x

This is such a fabulous idea. I love reading and I almost used to get through a book a week. But that was before Little Miss H came on the scene. I started 2015 with the goal of trying to read at least one book a month. That has to be achievable. So I’m definitely going to join in with this. Sounds fab. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

Thanks Lucy, I’d love to see what you are reading. I just think it will motivate me and also a little bit of technology free time too which is a bonus! xx

I’m over half way through now and loving it even though I can’t see where it is going yet!

That’s such a great idea – I used to devour books and I still do sometimes, but there are some books that I know and love so well I know I won’t be able to stop reading once I’ve started so I’ve got to be a bit careful I don’t end up spending a day parenting thinking about the next chapter! I’m really looking forward to seeing what you read during the year 🙂

I know what you mean, sometimes I would stand in the kitchen just reading a few pages while cooking tea or something. I love getting really into a book like that though, it is something I miss!

What a great idea. I use Goodreads to track the books I have read over the course of a year. Love nothing better than getting into bed at night with the Kindle (or a book from library) and getting list in it for a few hours.

A few people have said they use Goodreads. I signed up years ago then never got to grips with it but I must revisit! I really want to get back to reading like you do and getting back to getting lost in a book. I need inspiration to keep me going over the year!

I’m doing something similar myself! It is forcing me to read all of those books I’ve had hidden on the shelf for a long time!

    Lovely post
