For a long while I have had a post planned about being more than just a Mummy so here is my ‘A Little Bit Lately’. When you have a Mummy blog it is mostly dedicated to Mum’s stuff, which is fine, but I like a lot of other things in my life! I love music, live music (when I get the time), I am a massive film geek and the biggest bookworm. When I had Lucas a lot of this took a back seat but as he gets older things are starting to filter back in so I thought I would start ‘A Little Bit Lately just to let you know what’s going on with me and what I’m enjoying. I can’t guarantee it will always be ‘baby free’ but it will be a little bit of me!
Reading
Still reading my lovely, borrowed, old copy of Anna Karenina and even though I know I shouldn’t have started it yet (because at this rate I will never finish Anna Karenina) I am also reading Silver Linings Playbook. I am really enjoying both although they are obviously so different. I always like to have a few books on the go and I have a pile next to my bed still to get through. I’m hoping to make a start on Rebecca next and I have heard good things so I am really looking forward to that.
Watching
On Tuesdays hubby is out in the evening so I usually watch a ‘girly’ film that I know he won’t like. I have just this week watched Reality Bites and I have no idea why I have never seen it before! It seems like one of those films I should have seen as a teenager and it has just passed me by; anyway, I loved it. I’m also really liking Nashville on More 4; I love something that can take you mind off things and this is really good for that. I can’t say I have ever been a fan of country music but I love the music in this, does anyone know if the actors really sing? Just curious!
Listening to
Golden Oldies. My mum still has a record player and she has recently had all her old vinyl records out. We bought her a second hand Joni Mitchell LP for Mother’s Day, not really my thing but everything sounds good on vinyl. My brother had an old Bruce Springsteen record he was playing and I had fun going through my mum’s collection and reminiscing about my favourites when I was younger; everything from Dire Straits to Billy Joel to Yazoo to Stevie Wonder. Makes me want a record player.
Loving
Getting out the house with my husband. We don’t get a lot of time on our own and we don’t have a lot of extra money to spend but our local rugby league team was doing discounted tickets. This is something we did a lot pre-Lucas; my husband has loved rugby all his life and I have learned to love it too! It was a bit chilly but it was great to spend some time together out on the terraces; and our team won which is a bonus!.
Thinking about
Babies. There are newborn babies everywhere; some lovely mummy bloggers have welcomed new additions recently and my sister in law is due in a week, eek! We both know, eventually, we want to have a little brother or sister for Lucas and seeing all these cuddly newborns is making me broody. I’m not sure when the right time will be but we’ll know when we’re ready.
