A Little Bit Lately #29

February 1, 2017

Please read my first A Little Bit Lately post to find out what these are all about, although I’m sure you get the idea. These have been inspired by Sometimes Sweet’s Currently posts so check her out if you like it!

READING

I’m not in the reading zone at the moment, I have a few books on the go and even though I’m really enjoying them I just don’t find myself picking them up. I’m doing a post about my ‘to be read’ pile for this year so hoping that will get me going. I did read The Rest Of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness and I really loved it! I thought it was so clever – I suspect it was loosely based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the idea being to tell the story of the ordinary kids who are in the school just watching while the chosen one is off saving the world. There were a few references to the school being blown up. I was surprised when I read the reviews afterwards and a lot of people didn’t like it. It is quite different to his other books and has more of a John Green vibe about it but I truly enjoyed it.

WATCHING

I am currently binge watching Parks and Recreation – I realise we are SO late to the party on this one and I’ve had so many people pester me to watch it over the years. I can’t believe I’m only just watching it now but it is just one of my favourite things ever, everything about it makes me so happy but especially Ron Swanson! I also finally got to the cinema to watch Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them, I’m trying to make more of an effort to get to the cinema as it’s something I absolutely love to do. The film was just as good as I’d hoped and I thought Eddie Redmayne was fantastic, I’m glad he was never in the original Harry Potters as he was obviously meant to play this part.

LISTENING TO

I’ve really been enjoying the Radio 6 playlists on Spotify this week, they are full of such random songs that I love. I have a little bluetooth speaker that I can carry around this house with me so keep it on if I’m doing some housework or cooking. This one is my favourite at the moment, the twins have been very impressed with me blasting out Rapper’s Delight.

LOVING

One of my real life friends has started a blog, Bookworm and Theatre Mouse  (please pop over and have a read) and I’m so excited that she’s taken the plunge. I love that people are making their own little space on the internet – years ago at a blogging conference I heard a speaker say that in the future just about everyone will have a blog. Maybe one day it will be considered the norm as I’ve had a few people asking me about it recently and my Mum is even giving it a go. I have my ups and downs with blogging, sometimes I find it hard to get what’s in my head to translate onto a post and I get frustrated that I don’t have to time to really give it my all, but ultimately I love it. It has brought so much to my life.

THINKING ABOUT

I am obviously thinking about the world at large and what a mess it seems to be in but I don’t think I can articulate it properly here. I was talking about this to my husband and friends as it makes me so anxious that we are stuck in this cycle and sometimes when you see so little compassion it can be frightening. I’d make the mistake of reading the comments on articles or replies to tweets and they can be just awful. For some reason it’s the negative comments that stick in my head and I miss all the lovely ones – it can drag you down. I don’t want to ignore the news or stop reading what’s happening but a few negative comments can so easily drown out all the good in the world and all the good people we know. The kindness we have around us is the important thing to focus on!

What a lovely post Hayley. I love hearing about what people are reading/watching/listening to etc. How nice that your friend has started a blog too, that’s great! I must check out the Radio 6 playlists on Spotify. We listen to Spotify loads but I’ve never come across those ones:) x

I can really recommend the Radio 6 playlists, or just radio 6 in general actually! It suits me as it plays so much that I’d listen to but in a nice random mix! xx

I know exactly what you mean about the world… I really don’t think there is enough tea (or hope for that matter) to go around.
I love your IG feed – lovely to see how grown up your bys are getting xx

Yes the first month of the year has certainly been a strange one. I tend to keep my head down and bury it watching Gilmore Girls each evening instead of the news. I really need to use Spotify more and get a lesson from my 11 year old who uses it all the time x
